The Royal Artillery Gold Cup is one of the oldest and most prestigious races of the jumping season. It was first run in 1863 and moved to Sandown Park for the first time in 1878. It has been run there in every season since 1921. In 2010 it is being run on Friday 19th February. The race, which is a 'conditions' event, is restricted to horses that are owned or have been leased by those who are serving, or have served, in the Royal Artillery or one of its recognised Establishments or Units. The jockeys must be amateurs and they must also be past or present members of any of the Armed Services making the race unique in every sense.
